Vegan Diets and Vitamin B12 Deficiencies

It has been found out that people who follow vegan and even vegetarian diets are running a high risk of developing a vitamin B12 deficiency. Studies have concluded that B12 is primarily found in enough quantities through animal food. The amount of B12 found in vegetables is minimum and it is not enough to keep us safe from a deficiency problem.

Among the symptoms you will experience once the vitamin B12 levels get low are: constipation, weakness, loss of appetite, diarrhea, state of confusion, and the most commonly known symptom: diarrhea.

As an alternative to changing the diet, vegans and vegetarians can find proper supplementation through B12 supplements or by adding fortified cereals to their diets. If you are following one of these diets, you should check your vitamin levels and make the changes mentioned above to your life to avoid complications.
